GHENT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Raleigh County officials marked a major step forward in local service delivery with the grand opening of a new shared facility for the Sheriff’s Office and Assessor’s Office in Ghent.
The new location, at 2786 Flat Top Road, will officially open its doors today, bringing essential services closer to residents in the southern part of the county.
Local leaders gathered for the ribbon-cutting, including Sheriff Frank Priddy, Assessor Linda Sumner, Superintendent Dr. Serena Starcher, members of the Raleigh County Board of Education, and County Commissioners.
Their presence highlighted the cooperation between departments that helped bring the project to life.
Sheriff Priddy described the new office as a major win for public safety and convenience.
“There will be a police car here and an officer here quite often, and if people from this community want to come in and actually speak to somebody, they can. So, I think it’s a win,” he said.
He also noted the benefits of having the tax office nearby, adding, “If you need to pay your taxes or take care of anything like that, you don’t have to drive all the way to Beckley anymore.”
Assessor Linda Sumner said the location would make handling tax and property matters significantly easier for area residents, allowing them to manage tasks locally and save travel time.
The new satellite office for the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Tax Department opens to the public Thursday, May 15.
Regular hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a lunch closure from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
Services include personal property and real estate tax payments, as well as vehicle registration renewals (with some restrictions per DMV guidelines).
The facility is located in front of Ghent Elementary School. For questions, residents can call 304-491-4950.
