RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two people have been arrested after investigators determined a reported burglary and subsequent insurance claim were fraudulent, according to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the MacArthur area of Raleigh County on June 13 after receiving a report of a burglary at a residence.
During the initial investigation, Lucas Boggess and Adrianna Smith reported that several valuable items had been stolen from the home.
The sheriff’s office said investigators later discovered numerous inconsistencies between information initially provided to law enforcement and information the pair later provided to their homeowner’s insurance company.
Following an investigation, authorities said they developed sufficient evidence to determine the reported burglary and resulting insurance claim were fraudulent.
Boggess was arrested and charged with attempted fraudulent schemes, insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit a felony and 22 counts of uttering a forged writing. His bond was set at $400,000.
Smith was arrested and charged with attempted fraudulent schemes, insurance fraud and conspiracy to commit a felony. Her bond was set at $300,000.
The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office thanked the deputies and detectives involved in the investigation, along with West Virginia State Police Trooper L. Wood for assisting.
Boggess and Smith are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
