BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Raleigh County man is facing multiple federal charges related to bankruptcy fraud, according to an indictment.
James Eugene Monroe, Jr., a resident of Raleigh County and known as a host on QVC TV, appeared in federal court on August 22, 2024, for an initial appearance and arraignment on multiple indictments related to bankruptcy fraud.
Monroe, accompanied by his attorney, Steven R. Ruby, Esq., faced the charges presented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian D. Parsons.
During the hearing, Monroe was informed of the charges against him and his right to counsel.
The court made it clear that Monroe was not obligated to make any statements, and any he chose to make could be used against him.
Following the initial appearance, the arraignment order and standard discovery requests were completed.
The court set Monroe’s release on a $10,000 unsecured appearance bond, subject to specific conditions outlined in a separate order.
Monroe’s indictment includes 14 counts of bankruptcy fraud, involving fraudulent statements and concealment of assets in bankruptcy proceedings.
The charges allege that Monroe fraudulently concealed a sports trading card collection valued at over $10,000 and made multiple false declarations regarding assets and income in his bankruptcy filings.
He is accused of omitting significant financial details, including retirement accounts and loans, and making false statements about his dependents and the existence of a storage unit.
In addition to the bankruptcy fraud charges, Monroe faces a count of conducting a financial transaction involving proceeds from his fraudulent activities, with a specific transaction involving approximately $3,500.
The indictment includes a notice of forfeiture, seeking the forfeiture of any property derived from or used in the commission of the alleged offenses.
This includes a forfeiture money judgment of at least $381,133.06.
