RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Residents in parts of Raleigh County, including Crab Orchard, Prosperity, and Maple Fork, have voiced frustration over significant delays in mail delivery, with some saying they have received mail only once since January 4.
A LOOTPRESS reader expressed concern over the lack of local reporting on the issue.
“Mail has only been delivered or picked up in the Crab Orchard area one day since Jan. 4, and the roads have been clear most of the time,” the reader said.
They also noted similar issues in Prosperity and Maple Fork, where residents have taken to social media to voice complaints.
One resident shared that her mother relies on mail-order medications, making the delays particularly concerning.
Calls to the Beckley Post Office have reportedly gone unanswered for many residents, though one neighbor was able to reach someone who cited a problem with the Charleston distribution center.
Multiple readers have reached out to LOOTPRESS with similar concerns.
When asked about the issue, a spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service in West Virginia stated, “Our carriers are working each day and attempting to access mailboxes when it is safe to do so. We continue to ask customers to create a clear path to their mailboxes.”
“For mailboxes located on the house, please clear a path on the sidewalk and steps leading to the mailbox,” the spokesperson explained. “For curbside mailboxes, please clear a path to approach and exit the mailbox; generally, a car length approach and another car length to exit.”
The USPS advised customers to visit usps.com for assistance or reach out via social media at @USPSHelp on X (formerly Twitter) or Facebook.
We sent a follow-up to the USPS asking whether any post offices or distribution centers are experiencing any issues and have not heard back.
