Charleston – Thursday afternoon was a historic day for Summers County High School.
The boys cross country team finished runner-up to Charleston Catholic to move on to the state meet for the first time in school history.
Mount View also qualified for the state meet Nov. 2 at Cabell Midland High School finishing in third place.
Dakota Pettry lead the Bobcats with a fourth place finish overall, with Gabriel Franklin running 12th. Samuel Sears, Canyon Persinger, Noah Angell and Noah Bragg finished 17th through 20th, respectively for Summers County.
Blane Sturgell was the top runner for the Golden Knights followed by Colby Ratliff (21), Curtis West (22), Eli Ratliff (23) and Reilley Parkhurst (24).
Tommy Wikel from Wyoming East was eighth overall to qualify for the state meet, along with Brayden McPherson (10) and Owen Wayne (11) from Richwood. Ashton Hunt (14) from River View punched his ticket to the big dance as well.
Charleston Catholic won the girls title and had the only full girls team at the meet.
Summers County basketball star, turned cross country standout, Avery Lilly finished as the regional runner-up and heads to Ona. She will be joined by Sophie Mullens, Alyssa Bailey and Reagan Raffo from Richwood, along with Kacie Hatfield from River View.
