Charleston – Greenbrier East never relinquished the lead Monday, claiming Game 1 of the Class AAA Region 3 championship with an 8-3 victory over George Washington in Charleston.
The Spartans move one win away from claiming a spot in the state tournament and can do so Tuesday when the series shifts to Fairlea.
Taylor Boswell led the charge at the plate with tow hits and four RBIs while Alanis McClary blasted a home run and drove in a pair of runs.
Kayla Bartley secured the victory in the circle with a complete-game effort where she allowed four hits.
Kaitlyn Swisher homered for GW in the loss.
