WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Multiple rounds of thunderstorms brought high water and other weather-related problems across southern West Virginia Tuesday, with additional storms continuing to move through the region Tuesday evening.
Storms began early Tuesday morning and continued off and on throughout the day, producing heavy rainfall that caused problems from western West Virginia to the eastern portion of the state.
Multiple road closures, mudslides, downed trees and power outages were reported as creeks and streams quickly rose.
Locally, several downed trees caused closures along Thurmond Road throughout the day, while waterways including Glade Creek, Dunloup Creek and Sugar Creek were running high.
Mount Hope experienced significant flooding along Dunloup Creek in the Bailey’s Bottom area, affecting nearby homes and churches.
In Scarbro, an area that frequently experiences high water saw additional flooding Tuesday, with at least one vehicle becoming stranded in the water.
Additional problems remain possible Tuesday evening as more thunderstorms move through southern West Virginia.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for the area through Friday morning.
