PENDLETON COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Human remains discovered in the Monongahela National Forest have been identified as Cassie Sheetz, a woman who was reported missing in March 2021, according to the West Virginia State Police.
Sheetz, 24, of Upper Tract, was last seen near Spruce Knob in Pendleton County before being reported missing.
Months later, a hunter found human remains deep within the forest near Seneca Creek.
Authorities recovered the remains and sent them to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office for examination, working alongside the Smithsonian Institute and Marshall University.
Recent DNA testing confirmed the remains belong to Sheetz through samples obtained from her family.
The investigation remains ongoing, and Trooper First Class K.C. Raymond is leading the case.
