RICHWOOD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An organized search resumed at 8 a.m. Sunday for missing Richwood woman Mary Catherine Green, with volunteers joining emergency responders in an expanded effort to search the surrounding area.
The Richwood Fire Department announced plans for the coordinated search, asking volunteers with access to all-terrain vehicles, side-by-side vehicles and other off-road equipment to assist in covering as much ground as possible.
“In an effort to enhance collaborative efforts to locate Mary Catherine Green of Richwood, a comprehensive search operation is being organized to cover the surrounding area as extensively as possible.”
Search teams assembled at the Richwood Fire Department before being assigned designated search areas. The operation includes searching spur roads, trails, logging roads and other remote locations, with the overall scope determined by the number of volunteers available.
“The search will entail a thorough examination of spur roads, trails, logging roads, and other areas, with the scope of the search determined by the number of participants.”
Volunteers were encouraged to bring equipment that could assist in the search, including binoculars, FRS radios set to Channel 8, cellular boosters and satellite internet access points. Organizers also advised participants to wear appropriate clothing and bring extra fuel, food and personal refreshments, as the search is expected to continue throughout the day.
“A zero-tolerance policy for alcohol will be strictly enforced, as this is a professionally led search operation.”
Officials said while some areas can be reached by vehicle, searchers may need to continue on foot in certain locations.
Individuals with personal drones were also invited to participate but were required to notify coordinators in advance and comply with all applicable Federal Aviation Administration regulations to avoid interfering with existing drone and aircraft operations.
Mary Catherine Green, 62, was reported missing earlier this week. She has dementia and was last seen near her home on Greenbrier Road in Richwood. Authorities continue to ask anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact the West Virginia State Police.
