Greenbrier East 12, Woodrow Wilson 8
After watching Woodrow Wilson rally for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and send it to extras, the Spartans scored five runs in the eighth inning to take a 12-8 win in the opening round of Class AAA Region 3, Section 2 play.
Ashton Cochran collected three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs to lead the Spartans. Darris Boswell also had a double and drove in two runs, while Ian Cline had two hits and two RBI.
Logan Williams hit a home run and had two RBI for the Flying Eagles. Chase Tolliver had three hits and an RBI, while Blake Stratton had two hits and two RBI.
No. 2 seed Woodrow Wilson will travel to No. 1 seed Oak Hill Wednesday for an elimination game, while No. 3 seed Greenbrier East will now host No. 4 seed Princeton Wednesday in a winner bracket game.
Shady Spring 17, Nicholas County 5 (6 innings)
Shady Spring scored seven runs in the fourth and sixth innings to roll past Nicholas County 17-5 in six innings Tuesday in Class AA Region 3, Section 2 play.
Josh Lovell had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs. Evan Belcher collected two hits and also had four RBI.
Aden Seabolt had two hits, including a double, and an RBI, while Tyler Mackey also hit a double and drove in two runs. Adam Richmond had two RBI for the Tigers.
Garrett Kesterson had a pair of RBI for the Grizzlies.
Shady Spring will play Independence today in the winners bracket, while Nicholas County will host Liberty in an elimination game.
Independence 13, Liberty 0 (5 innings)
The home-standing Patriots scored nine runs in the first inning and eased past county rival Liberty 13-0 in the opening round of Class AA Region 3, Section 2 play.
Michael McKinney blasted a home run as part of his four-hit night and drove in six runs to lead Independence. Elijah Farrington had three hits, including a double, and drove in five runs.
Clay Basham and J.D. Monroe combined on a one-hit shutout and struckout eight batters.
Independence hosts Shady Spring today, while Liberty will look to stay alive in the postseason when it travels to Nicholas County.
Bluefield 13, Wyoming East 3 (6 innings)
Bluefield – The Beavers scored 10 runs in the first three innings to defeat Wyoming East 13-3 in six innings in their Class AA Region 3, Section 1 winner’s bracket clash.
Hunter Harmon had a double, a triple and drove in three runs, while Bryson Redmond had a double, a triple and drove in two runs for Bluefield.
Davis Rockness had three hits and Caleb Fuller drove in a pair of runs. Fuller pitched the first three innings for the win and Redmond worked the final three innings.
Jacob Howard had a double and a single and drove in two runs for the Warriors.
Bluefield advances to the sectional championship game, while East faces an elimination game Wednesday.
Greenbrier West 10, Midland Trail 7
Charmco – Greenbrier West built a 10-4 lead over Midland trail and went on to a 10-7 win in Class A Region 3, Section 2 play Tuesday.
Josh Jones had three hits, including a double and drove in three runs, while Chase McClung had three RBI and Tucker Gibson had two RBI to lead the Cavaliers.
Griffin Boggs hit a pair of doubles for the Patriots. Cade Kincaid and Will McGraw drove in two runs apiece.
Greenbrier West will travel to Charleston Catholic Wednesday.
