Independence 10, Shady Spring 3

Coal City – Independence scored seven runs in the first two innings, beating county rival Shady Spring 10-3 Wednesday in the Region 3, Section 2 tournament in Coal City.

Aside from the home run, Indy starter Clay Basham was stellar, striking out nine in six innings of work.

Shady will play the winner of Wednesday’s Nicholas County and Liberty matchup while Independence will await the winner of that game in Friday’s sectional championship.
