Independence 6, Nicholas County 0
Summersville – Reid Warden was a thorn in the side of No. 1 seed Nicholas County Friday night in Class AA Region 3, Section 2 play.
Warden fired a one-hit shutout and drove in two runs to lead No. 2 seed Independence to a 6-0 win over the Grizzlies.
The Patriots advance to the sectional championship round, while Nicholas County now hosts Shady Spring in an elimination game Saturday.
Warden drove in the runs via a home run and a double, while Degan Williams had a triple, a single and drove in three runs.
Levi Barnett and Brayden Kiblinger each had a double.
Caleb Jarvis had the lone hit for the Grizzlies.
Wyoming East 12, Westside 3
New Richmond – Wyoming East jumped out to a 5-0 lead and went on to defeat Westside 12-3 in a Class AA Region 3, Section 1 elimination game.
Wyoming East will play No. 1 seed PikeView Saturday at 1 p.m. The Panthers need one win for the sectional title. East will need two wins for the crown.
Miken Smyth led the Warriors with two hits and three RBI, while Michael Johnson, Jarred Phillips and Jacob Adkins each drove in two runs.
Kaiden Vance had a double and one RBI for the Renegades.
Shady Spring 13, Liberty 3 (6 innings)
The Tigers never trailed in a 13-3, six-inning win over Liberty in the Class AA Region 3, Section 2 elimination game.
Shady Spring will battle Nicholas County in Summersville Saturday morning at 11 a.m for the right to play Independence for the sectional championship.
Saturday’s loser will be done for the season.
Jake Meadows had four hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs, while Noah Fox added three RBI for the Tigers.
Sam Barnett, Carter Pack and Gavin Davis each hit a double. Pack had two RBI with Barnett and Davis each driving in one run.
Landon Hall, Brayden Keith and Colton Tolliver each had an RBI for Liberty. Logan Ellis and Isaac Williams each had a double.
