Coal City – Delaney Buckland was perfect as Independence defeated Liberty 14-0 in five innings Tuesday in the Class AA Region 3, Section 2 tournament in Coal City.
The sophomore hurler struck out 13 in five innings of work, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Senior Kaylen Parks was 2-for-3 at the plate, launching her state-leading 12th home run of the season.
Indy improves to 18-12 and will host Shady Spring Wednesday at 5:30 in the sectional winner’s bracket. The winner of that game will advance to the sectional championship game.
Liberty will travel to Nicholas County with the loser calling it a season.

Shady Spring – Olivia Barnett hit a walk-off grand slam in sixth inning as Shady Spring beat Nicholas County 8-0 Tuesday in the Class AA Region 3, Section 2 tournament in Shady Spring.
Paige Maynard struck out 11 for the Tigers, allowing just two hits. She also collected two hits herself at the plate.
Shady moves into the winner’s bracket and will travel to Independence on Wednesday with a spot in the sectional championship game on the line.
Nicholas will host Liberty on Wednesday in an elimination game.

New Richmond – Olivia Hylton struck out 13 batters as Wyoming East trounced PikeView 12-1 in the Class AA Region 3, Section 1 tournament Tuesday in New Richmond.
Hylton helped her own cause at the plate, notching two hits while Makayla King went 3-for-3.
East advances to the winner’s bracket and will host county rival Westside for a spot in the sectional championship game.
PikeView will travel to Bluefield today in an elimination game.

Lindside – James Monroe scored in every inning as the Lady Mavericks beat Mount View 17-2 Tuesday in the Class A Region 3, Section 1 tournament.
Lexi Boggs drove in four runs for the Lady Mavs while Adyson Hines went 2-for-2 with a double, driving in three runs.
James Monroe will play the winner of Tuesday’s game between Montcalm and River View on Wednesday in Lindside while Mount View will travel to the loser in an elimination game.
