Shady Spring 9, Nicholas County 2
Shady Spring – Paige Maynard struck out nine in the circle and homered at the plate, leading Shady Spring to a 9-2 win over Nicholas County Thursday night in Shady.
The win moves Shady Spring into the Class AA Region 3, Section 2 championship game where it will face Independence in a rematch of Wednesday’s sectional matchup.
Maynard led all Tigers with two hits, driving in four runs. It more than made up for a rough start in which she allowed two runs to score in the first inning. She shut the Grizzlies down the rest of the way, cruising to the win.
Shady will travel to Indy on Friday, needing to win two games in order to claim the section championship.

Hico – Midland Trail moved into the driver’s seat, beating Richwood 11-1 Thursday night in Hico.
Trail moves into the Class A Region 3, Section 2 championship game.
Meghan Gill and Faith Bailes led the way for Trail, each collecting two hits and driving in four runs apiece.
Richwood will play again on Monday against an opponent yet to be determined.
