CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Senator Rollan Roberts has been named Vice Chair of the West Virginia Senate Finance Committee, a move that increases the influence of Raleigh, Wyoming, and Fayette counties in state budget decisions. Senate President Randy Smith announced the decision at the beginning of the 2026 legislative session.
The Senate Finance Committee is responsible for crafting the state budget and overseeing major appropriations, including funding for infrastructure, water systems, education, and economic development. As Vice Chair, Roberts will play a key role in shaping how state dollars are allocated during the legislative session.
Senator Roberts has served in the Legislature since 2018. In recent years, he has emphasized the need to address long-standing water and infrastructure problems in Wyoming County, where aging systems have created reliability and public health concerns for multiple communities.
Senator Brian Helton said the promotion reflects both Roberts’ experience and the importance of the region he represents.
“Rollan has put in the work on the budget side since he was first elected,” said Brian Helton. “Having him in a Finance leadership role matters for Raleigh, Wyoming, and Fayette counties, especially when infrastructure and water projects are on the line.”
The appointment gives Southern West Virginia a stronger presence on one of the Legislature’s most influential committees as budget discussions move forward this session.
