WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Residents across the region should prepare for multiple rounds of potentially severe weather beginning this morning and continuing through tonight. According to the latest forecast, strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop throughout the day, bringing with them a risk of damaging winds, large hail, and even isolated tornadoes.
What to Expect:
-
Damaging winds are the primary threat.
-
Large hail and tornadoes are possible.
-
Heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding.
Forecasters say light rain may fall early this morning, but the real concern begins mid-morning into the afternoon, when stronger storms are expected to move in from the southwest. Conditions are especially favorable for severe storms to develop in central and southern parts of the region.
While storm activity may ease briefly this evening, a stronger line of storms is expected to arrive overnight ahead of a cold front. This second wave is expected to bring an even greater chance for damaging weather as it sweeps across the area.

Most of the region is under an Enhanced Risk for severe weather through tonight, with forecasters warning that damaging winds are the most likely hazard. However, the potential for large hail, tornadoes, and excessive rainfall is also present.
Temperature Outlook:
-
Highs: Upper 70s to mid 80s in the lowlands; 70s to low 80s in the mountains
-
Lows: Mid 50s to 60s overnight
Officials urge residents to stay weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and avoid flooded roadways if heavy rains cause high water.
