LEWISBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A tragic shooting in Greenbrier County has left a 72-year-old woman dead and her son in custody.
On Monday, January 6, 2025, at approximately 8:52 a.m., deputies from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at 894 Anderson Road in Lewisburg. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Shirley Gabbert, 72, deceased inside the residence from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim’s son, Andrew Yancy Gabbert, 33, was taken into custody at the scene without incident. He was processed and transported to the Southern Regional Jail.
The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team arrived to process the scene, with Lt. Gary Workman and Sgt. Brandon McCormick leading the investigation. Officials have stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
The Sheriff’s Office received assistance at the scene from the Lewisburg Police Department, the Lewisburg Fire Department, and the Greenbrier County Emergency Ambulance Service.
