Fairlea – The Sophia Senior All-Stars won two games Tuesday night at Greenbrier East High School to open District 4 Tournament play.
Sophia rallied from a 3-0 deficit to knock off Central Greenbrier 10-3 in the opener before cruising past Western Greenbrier 10-2 in the nightcap.
With the wins, Sophia advances to the championship round Thursday night, while the two Greenbrier County teams will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the double-elimination format.
In the opening game, Andrew Coalson was 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI. Chase Shea also had a double as part of his two-hit night and drove in a pair of runs.
Hunter Milam had a double, a single and an RBI, while Colyn Smith added two hits and drove in one run. Allen Coalson had two RBI.
Sophia secured the sweep taking advantage of 10 errors from Western Greenbrier, while allowing only three hits.
Milam had two hits and an RBI, while Logan Ellis, Hunter Austin and Andrew Coalson each had one RBI.
Shea, Austin and Andrew Coalson combined to hold Western at bay, collecting 14 strikeouts over seven innings.
The championship game will start at 6 p.m. Thursday with the “if necessary” game slated to immediately follow.
