CHAPMANVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Chapmanville man faces multiple charges after West Virginia State Police said a one-year-old child was injured during a domestic-related incident Friday.
According to State Police, Trooper J.D. Canterbury responded Aug. 21 to a report of an active domestic incident on Fillinger Drive in Chapmanville.
When Canterbury arrived, he located a one-year-old child who had suffered an injury to the left eye.
Investigators determined that Charles Sheppard, 26, of Chapmanville, and his girlfriend, Kaitlyn Lucas, 22, of Chapmanville, had allegedly been involved in a physical altercation at the residence.
State Police said the initial investigation indicated Sheppard allegedly punched the child and choked Lucas during the incident. Canterbury observed injuries to Lucas’ neck and arm, according to authorities.
The child was transported to Logan Regional Hospital for medical treatment due to the injuries.
Sheppard was arrested and charged with strangulation, child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and domestic battery. He was transported to the Southwestern Regional Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
