CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia House Speaker Roger Hanshaw is asking Governor Patrick Morrisey to convene a special session of the West Virginia House of Delegates to consider expelling Delegate D. Elliott Pritt from the Legislature.
In a letter dated July 23, Hanshaw requested that the governor call the House into an extraordinary session on Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, for the sole purpose of considering a resolution to remove Pritt from office.
The letter states that the request is being made under Article 6, Section 19 of the West Virginia Constitution and has the support of the required three-fifths of the House membership.
“Pursuant to Article 6, Section 19 of the Constitution of the State of West Virginia, the undersigned members, constituting the required three fifths of the membership of the West Virginia House of Delegates, request that you call the House of Delegates into an extraordinary session on Monday, August 10, 2026, for the limited purpose of considering and acting upon a resolution to expel Delegate D. Elliott Pritt from membership in the West Virginia House of Delegates.”
An accompanying document lists the delegates who had signed the request as of 8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, indicating the threshold required to request the special session had been met.
Pritt, a Republican representing Fayette County, was arrested Wednesday on a federal charge of enticement of a minor. He remains in federal custody pending a preliminary hearing and detention hearing scheduled for Monday in Charleston.
The federal charge is an allegation, and Pritt is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
