SUMMERS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Voters in Summers County have rejected a proposed school levy for the second time this year following Tuesday’s general election.
The Summers County Board of Education levy failed during the November 3, 2026, election, falling approximately 124 votes short of passing.
The proposed four-year levy would have generated approximately $4.57 million for Summers County Schools, providing around $1.14 million annually to support educational programs, staffing, and facility improvements.
Funding from the levy would have been used to hire additional teachers and school personnel, renovate playgrounds at elementary schools, improve school security, and provide a school resource officer at Summers County Comprehensive High School.
The proposal also included funding for facility and transportation improvements throughout the school system.
Tuesday’s defeat marks the second time Summers County voters have rejected a school levy in 2026. A previous levy proposal was defeated during the May primary election.
Summers County has not approved a school levy since 1979.
With the latest proposal rejected, the school system will not receive the additional property tax revenue that would have been generated by the levy.
