HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Summers County Sheriff’s Department has announced that Kayla, a former member of the Department’s K9 Unit, passed away on Tuesday.
A member of the team for years, K9 Kayla served in multiple counties throughout West Virginia including Summers County with the Chief Deputy T.S. Adkins of the Summers County Sheriff’s Department and Greenbrier County in the town of Alderson as a companion to patrolman Brackenrich.
“The Summers County Sheriff’s Department regrets to report that an old deputy, and friend, has passed away,” read a Wednesday evening statement from the department.
“We would like to honor K9 Kayla for her years of exemplary service to the communities in which she served. K9 Kayla served with the Summers County Sheriff’s Office from 2014-2016 with Chief Deputy T.S. Adkins. She then went on to serve the town of Alderson for an additional two years with K9 Patrolman Mac Brackenrich.
After an off-duty incident that left Mac injured, she was retired and spent her remaining years by his side, Just the way it should be.
The communities of Summers County and Alderson are in your debt. Rest in Peace. We will take it from here old girl.
