BOONE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — West Virginia Superintendent of Schools Michele L. Blatt has named Allen Sexton as the new permanent Superintendent of Boone County Schools, effective July 1, 2025. Sexton will succeed interim superintendent Deirdre Cline, who will remain on board to assist with the transition.
Sexton currently serves as the Director of Special Education for Raleigh County Schools, bringing more than 25 years of experience in public education to his new role. His previous positions include assistant director of special education, classroom teacher, and special education compliance monitor for the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE).
His appointment comes in the wake of a Special Circumstance Review conducted by the WVDE, which uncovered multiple procedural and operational issues within Boone County Schools. Following the findings, the West Virginia Board of Education voted to intervene in BCS operations during its June meeting.
Superintendent Blatt expressed confidence in Sexton’s ability to lead the district forward.
“Mr. Sexton brings extensive experience and a strong commitment to public education,” said Blatt. “His knowledge of special education and leadership will be essential as Boone County addresses the challenges identified in the review.”
Interim Superintendent Cline will continue working with county leadership in a liaison role to support improvements and ensure continuity during the transition period.
Sexton, a graduate of Marshall University, holds a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Special Education. He emphasized his commitment to improving education outcomes in the county.
“I am committed to the students, staff, and families of Boone County Schools,” Sexton said. “With support from Superintendent Blatt and the WVDE, we will work together to strengthen our systems and deliver the high-quality education our children deserve.”
