CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia will host the West Virginia Civics Coalition’s “Civic Education for Everyone” event from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, in the Supreme Court courtroom at the state Capitol in Charleston.
The event is being conducted in coordination with the second National Civics Learning Week, March 10-14. The week is designed to promote events that feature programs that encourage a dialogue about the importance of civics education.
Thursday’s event will feature a discussion with the justices about the Supreme Court’s commitment to civic education as well as a question-and-answer session with participants.
“An informed citizenry is the bedrock of our democracy,” said Chief Justice William R. “Bill” Wooton. “This program will provide a wonderful opportunity for students and citizens to learn about government and how they can engage with it.”
The event will also feature presentations by students from Mingo County and Raleigh County schools, leaders of the West Virginia Youth Leadership Association, the State Board of Education, and a session on media literacy with Amelia Ferrell Knisely of West Virginia Watch and Taylor Eaton of WSAZ.
