JACKSON COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities have taken a suspect into custody following a dramatic and exhaustive manhunt across snow-covered terrain in Jackson and Roane counties.
According to officials, Chase Fleming is accused of shooting his father in the face with a crossbow. The victim survived the attack and is currently listed in stable condition at CAMC General Hospital.
After the incident, Fleming fled the scene, sparking a lengthy foot pursuit that stretched across multiple counties. Law enforcement agencies conducted an intensive tracking operation in difficult winter conditions before ultimately locating and apprehending him.
Fleming has also been admitted to the hospital for observation after deputies sought to have him medically cleared for incarceration.
He is currently charged with one count of malicious assault, though additional charges may be presented to a grand jury.
Authorities credited a coordinated effort among multiple agencies for the successful capture, including deputies from Roane and Kanawha counties, the West Virginia State Police, and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.
Bond has not yet been set.
