FAIRLEA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man is dead after refusing to drop his weapon when instructed to do so by police.
According to the West Virginia State Police (WVSP), on Monday, May 6, 2024, at approximately 4:04 PM, Corporal D. P. Dillon and Corporal J. C. Mann with the WVSP responded to Fairlea in Greenbrier County regarding a suspicious male subject brandishing a deadly weapon.Â
On arrival, Corporal Dillon and Corporal Mann located the male subject who was later identified as Justin Denver Grant.Â
Corporal Dillon and Corporal Mann verbally ordered Mr. Grant to drop the deadly weapon but he refused, according to police.
Corporal Dillon used his department-issued taser on Mr. Grant, but it was ineffective. Mr. Grant continued to refuse verbal orders to drop the deadly weapon as the situation escalated.Â
Corporal Dillon at this time discharged his department-issued pistol striking Mr. Grant. Â
Mr. Grant was transported by EMS to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.Â
Corporal Dillon and Corporal Mann were not injured during this incident.Â
This incident is still under investigation by the West Virginia State Police.
