GILLMAN BOTTOM, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was fatally shot by West Virginia State Police troopers Wednesday afternoon during an active hostage situation in Logan County.
According to state police, Trooper First Class T. D. Adkins and Trooper D. A. Holt responded to a report of shots fired on Amethyst Drive in Gillman Bottom, near Davin, at approximately 12:04 p.m.
Upon arrival, they encountered a suspect, identified as 65-year-old Billy Joe Porter of Davin, holding a man at gunpoint.
Troopers attempted to negotiate with Porter and gave multiple commands for him to drop his weapon.
When the hostage attempted to escape, Porter raised his weapon toward the man, prompting troopers to use lethal force.
Porter was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither the hostage nor the responding officers were injured.
