The suspect, identified by law enforcement as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is an Afghan national who entered the United States in 2021 following the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan. He arrived through one of the federal resettlement programs designed for Afghans who assisted U.S. operations, and he was later granted asylum earlier this year.
