GLEN ROGERS, WV (LOOTPRESS)— A late-night burglary attempt was thwarted after alert neighbors and home security footage helped identify suspects who broke into a Wyoming County home and attempted to steal thousands of dollars in property.
At approximately 8:40 p.m. on May 26, 2025, Trooper N.T. Warde of the West Virginia State Police responded to a 911 call from the Wyoming County 911 Center reporting a burglary in progress at a residence in Glen Rogers.
Upon arriving at 9:04 p.m., Trooper Warde spoke with concerned acquaintances of the homeowner, who had checked the residence after the homeowner reported suspicious activity through her Blink security cameras. The witnesses told police they discovered a blue Kia Seltos in the driveway with the back hatch open, an elderly male outside, and a woman and younger man inside the home.
The witnesses photographed the suspects and vehicle but had to leave the area temporarily due to poor cell service. When they returned, the suspects had fled the scene.
Thanks to previous encounters, Trooper Warde was able to positively identify the elderly male suspect. The vehicle was confirmed to be a blue Kia Seltos, which also appeared on the homeowner’s surveillance footage.
A sweep of the crime scene revealed a broken window—the point of forced entry—along with a damaged power and internet box, likely an attempt to disable the home’s surveillance system. Several items, including a 52-inch LG TV, an electric fireplace, and multiple 42-inch televisions, were unplugged and staged near the back door, presumably for a quick getaway.
Further review of the security footage at the WVSP Jesse Detachment, with assistance from Deputy Grimmette, confirmed the presence of three suspects: an elderly male Robert Clair Stewart, a female identified as Tabitha Mullens, and a still unidentified male. The video shows the suspects circling the home, knocking on doors, and loading items into their vehicle before the footage abruptly ends after tampering with the security equipment.
Damages and stolen property are estimated at over $1,000, including the theft of the home’s electric meter.
