GLEN FORK, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A routine patrol turned into a drug arrest early Thursday morning when a deputy with the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle acting suspiciously near a known drug residence.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. on July 17, 2025, Deputy Hunter Walker was patrolling the Glen Fork area when he noticed a red Jeep Grand Cherokee parked outside a residence known for drug activity. Roughly 30 minutes later, the same vehicle was seen traveling nearby and began displaying unusual behavior.
According to Deputy Walker, the Jeep repeatedly pulled off the road into parking lots, including one at a local church, seemingly attempting to avoid law enforcement. After the third suspicious maneuver, Walker conducted a traffic stop near Ravencliff.
The driver, identified as Mary Burgess, appeared visibly nervous and admitted her license was suspended. Upon further questioning, Burgess allowed the deputy to search her vehicle. During the search, a piece of aluminum foil containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine was found between the driver’s seat and the console.
Burgess was read her Miranda rights and questioned about the substance. She initially denied ownership but admitted to using meth recently and said she often purchases it from the residence where she was first spotted.
Burgess was arrested for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department for processing. The suspected meth will be sent to the West Virginia State Police lab for testing. Her vehicle was impounded by C&T Towing.
