CROSS LANES, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities responded to reports of suspicious activity in the Cross Lanes area on Sunday after four individuals were suspected to have been planning to rob a convenience store.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at around 10:30pm, Sheriff’s Deputy K.B. Eskew responded to a call regarding a suspicious person at the Speedway location at Big Tyler Road in Cross Lanes, WV.
Dispatchers with Metro 911 had received a call in which a witness detailed having observed four juveniles approaching the Speedway establishment with ski masks. Additionally, reports indicate that the caller had overheard the juveniles discussing plans to rob the store.
Upon arrival at the establishment, deputies located four juveniles loitering at the location, one of which immediately fled on foot while the other three were detained by responding deputies. Sufficient evidence was gathered by deputies to suggest that the juveniles had already been engaging in or were planning to engage in criminal activity.

Reports indicate that deputies have reason to suspect the individuals’ involvement in additional crimes throughout the area, and deputies are currently working with the Nitro Police Department and Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Section to determine the correlation, if any, to other incidents.
The investigation remains active, and charges are anticipated to be filed at a later date. Investigators have requested that those who reside in the area and may have any video surveillance of the four male juveniles at around 10:30pm on Sunday, April 16, 2023, contact the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office immediately at (304) 357-0169.
