(LOOTPRESS) – Thousands of bottles of liquid Benadryl are being recalled due to a packaging issue that poses a poisoning risk to young children, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced Thursday.
Brooklyn-based Arsell Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 2,300 bottles of Benadryl Liquid Elixir (100 mL) after discovering that the packaging is not child-resistant, as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. The recalled product contains diphenhydramine, an antihistamine that must be sold in child-proof packaging under federal law.
“The packaging of the products is not child-resistant, posing a risk of poisoning if the contents are swallowed by young children,” the CPSC stated in an official recall notice.
No illnesses or injuries related to the recall have been reported so far, according to federal officials.
The recalled Benadryl bottles were sold in round, dark plastic containers with a pink and white label featuring the brand name in blue text. Manufactured in Canada, the product was packaged in a paper box with a white label on the bottom displaying the code “X003VRIGUL” in black text. It was available for purchase on Amazon.com between July 2023 and October 2024, with prices ranging from $16 to $19.
Consumers who purchased the recalled product should dispose of it immediately. To receive a refund, buyers must submit their Amazon order number along with a photo showing proof of disposal to recall@arsellsupport.com.
While only the bottle is being recalled, both the packaging and the medicine should be discarded as a precaution, the recall notice emphasized.
Anyone with health concerns related to the recalled product should contact a healthcare provider. Additionally, any adverse effects linked to the recall should be reported to the appropriate authorities.
