BRAXTON COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Braxton County Schools (BCS) announced Sunday evening that a threat made against Braxton County Middle School has been circulating on social media.
The West Virginia State Police are actively investigating the situation.
The student responsible for making the threat has been identified and will not be attending school while the investigation is underway.
The school system confirmed that the threat was not directed at the entire student body and is unrelated to recent statewide threats.
While specific disciplinary actions cannot be disclosed, the school district referred to West Virginia Board of Education Policy 4373, which lists threats as a potential reason for expulsion of up to one year.
BCS says such behavior will not be tolerated, and all necessary steps will be taken to ensure student safety.
As a precaution, armed security will be present at Braxton County Middle School tomorrow.
Parents are being urged to talk to their children about the seriousness of making threats, which can result in severe consequences, including criminal charges.
Students are also encouraged to report any potential threats they come across.
