CLAY COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Three individuals have been charged following a multi-month investigation into fentanyl distribution in Clay County.
Authorities say the investigation began in July 2025 when Corporal S.A. McDonald of the West Virginia State Police, working with a confidential informant, arranged a controlled purchase of suspected fentanyl from 46-year-old Lorissa Elaine Stewart of Maysel.

According to the criminal complaint, the informant met with Stewart at her residence, where Stewart allegedly weighed and handed over a substance later confirmed to be fentanyl in exchange for cash.
Stewart is facing charges of delivery of fentanyl, and her bond has been set at $950,000 cash only.
On August 6, 2025, the investigation revealed the involvement of Stewart’s significant other, 49-year-old Jason Randolph Stalnaker.
Court documents state Stalnaker was present in the bedroom during another controlled purchase, sitting nearby while Stewart weighed the suspected fentanyl.
He has been charged with conspiracy to deliver fentanyl, with bond set at $250,000 cash only.
The investigation culminated in early October with a search warrant executed at Stewart’s residence.
During the search, 43-year-old Jeremy Ray Gray was observed entering and exiting a nearby wooded area. Officers recovered a small bag containing approximately 1.05 grams of fentanyl and a cutting agent known as “swerve.”
Gray admitted ownership of the bag and is charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. His bond is set at $10,000 cash only.
