CHELYAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A toll booth worker was hospitalized Saturday morning after a tractor-trailer carrying I-beams struck a toll booth at the Interstate 77 toll plaza in Chelyan, according to the West Virginia State Police.
The incident occurred shortly after 9:15 a.m. at the southbound toll plaza, troopers said in a news release.
According to investigators, the tractor-trailer was traveling through the toll plaza when one of the I-beams being transported made contact with a toll booth.
The impact caused the booth to rock to the right, resulting in the toll booth worker falling through an open window. Troopers said the booth then struck a vehicle traveling through a neighboring lane.
The toll booth worker was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center General for treatment. Authorities said the worker’s injuries appear to be minor at this time.
The driver of the vehicle struck by the toll booth was not injured, according to state police.
Troopers cited the driver of the tractor-trailer for failure to obey a traffic control device.
The incident remains under investigation.
