FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A late-night traffic stop in Fayetteville resulted in the arrest of a Kentucky man after officers allegedly discovered methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia inside his vehicle.
According to the Fayetteville Police Department, Patrolman S.A. Gunnoe and Patrolman First Class J.P. Hannigan were patrolling the city at approximately 10:58 p.m. on June 24 when they observed a dark-colored Chevrolet Avalanche with Kentucky license plates stopped in the left-turn lane on U.S. Route 19 North.
Police reported seeing both the driver and passenger making what officers described as “furtive movements,” rapidly moving items toward the back seat and reaching into the center console area of the vehicle. After turning onto Beckwith Road, officers observed the vehicle cross over the solid white line multiple times before initiating a traffic stop near Wollard Road.
The driver was identified as Wayne Wilson Treadway, 54, while the passenger was identified as Trisha McMillan.
Treadway reportedly told officers the vehicle had front-end mechanical problems that caused it to swerve. However, police noted that both occupants appeared extremely nervous and avoided eye contact throughout the stop.
While checking information on both occupants, officers learned the passenger had previous drug-related charges in Fayette County. Treadway was then asked to sit in a patrol vehicle while a written warning was prepared.
According to the criminal complaint, Treadway admitted there were marijuana “roaches” inside the vehicle but denied possessing any other narcotics.
Officers then questioned the passenger about the presence of illegal drugs. After she denied having narcotics in the vehicle, police conducted a probable cause search based on Treadway’s admission that marijuana was inside the vehicle.
During the search, officers located multiple suspected controlled substances, including:
- A small bag containing a white powdery substance inside the center console.
- Another bag of white powder.
- A bag containing a crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine.
- A digital scale.
- A bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana hidden beneath the rear seat.
Both occupants were detained and advised of their Miranda rights.
According to police, Treadway admitted he had purchased approximately 10 grams of methamphetamine and 3.5 grams of cocaine from an individual in Beckley earlier that day.
After being transported to the Fayetteville Police Department, investigators said Treadway again confessed to purchasing the drugs, stating he paid $50 for the methamphetamine and $200 for the cocaine.
Treadway was arrested shortly after midnight on June 25 and transported to Southern Regional Jail.
He is charged with:
- Possession with Intent to Deliver
- Reckless Driving
The charges are allegations, and Treadway is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
