WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was arrested in Wyoming County after deputies said they found suspected fentanyl during a traffic stop earlier this week.
According to a criminal complaint, a deputy was traveling on Stephenson Basin Mountain on October 6, 2025, when he got behind a black SUV with a North Carolina temporary registration.
The deputy reported that the vehicle crossed the center yellow line twice, prompting a traffic stop.
The driver, who reportedly did not have a valid driver’s license, was asked to exit the vehicle and gave the deputy permission to search it.
One of the passengers, identified as 38-year-old Zachary Calfee, was asked to step out of the vehicle. As Calfee exited, the deputy observed two pieces of aluminum foil fall from his waist area.
Inside the foil was a powdery substance, which the deputy said tested positive for fentanyl, a controlled substance.
Calfee was detained and transported to the Mullens Police Department for processing. The suspected fentanyl has been sent to the West Virginia State Police Laboratory for further testing.
Calfee has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. He is currently at Southern Regional Jail on a $2,500 bond.
