(LOOTPRESS) – President Donald Trump announced Monday that Walmart plans to lower prices on a variety of products, including ground beef, after what he described as a request from his administration to mark the nation’s 250th birthday.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Walmart would reduce the price of a pound of ground beef by “almost 15%” along with lowering prices on other items.
“Great news! I have just been informed that one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America, Walmart, will be lowering prices, by a lot, at my Administration’s request to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday,” Trump wrote. “Walmart will, in particular, be dropping the price for a pound of ground beef by almost 15%, among many other products.”
Trump praised the retailer and encouraged other companies to follow its lead.
“Walmart is stepping up in a big and bold way, and other Retailers should follow the lead of these absolute Patriots,” he wrote.
Earlier Monday, Walmart announced thousands of summer price reductions at Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations nationwide as part of its seasonal Rollback program, with discounts on groceries, household essentials, outdoor products, apparel and other items.
Among the featured Rollbacks at most Walmart stores is a one-pound roll of 73% lean fresh ground beef, reduced from $6.74 to $5.94, along with lower prices on fresh sweet corn, cherries, ice cream, snack foods, paper plates and select soft drink 24-packs.
“Customers count on Walmart to deliver the value they need every day, and summer is no exception,” said Julie Barber, Executive Vice President and Chief Merchant, Walmart U.S.
“This summer, we’re making even more investments in price, with thousands of Rollbacks across the products customers are shopping for most including beef, fresh produce and beverages, grills, pools, toys and summer fashion apparel. Whether they’re stocking up for a backyard barbecue, heading out on vacation or simply shopping for the week ahead, we’re helping everyone save more for every occasion.”
Walmart said the savings are intended to help customers spend less on everything from weekly grocery trips and backyard cookouts to summer vacations and neighborhood gatherings. The company also announced lower prices on more than 250 items at Sam’s Club, including grilling essentials, snacks and fuel-related savings for members.
In his Truth Social post, Trump also credited his administration with lowering inflation-related costs.
“Just as I promised, Oil Prices are plummeting FAST, and Gas Prices at the pump are dropping too, just like egg and Prescription Drug prices which I am bringing down by historic levels,” Trump wrote.
