WASHINGTON DC (LOOTPRESS) – President Donald Trump has signed an executive order reversing environmental policies from the Biden administration, mandating a return to plastic straws in federal facilities. The move rolls back efforts to promote paper straws as part of sustainability initiatives introduced under former President Joe Biden.
“We’re going back to plastic straws,” Trump declared while signing the order in the Oval Office. “These things [paper straws] don’t work. I’ve had them many times, and on occasion, they break, they explode. If something’s hot, they don’t last very long—like a matter of minutes, sometimes a matter of seconds. It’s a ridiculous situation. So we’re going back to plastic straws. I think it’s OK.”
The executive order directs federal agencies, cafeterias, and government-run facilities to end the use of paper straws and reinstate plastic straws where applicable.
Environmental groups and advocates for sustainability have criticized the decision, arguing that plastic straws contribute to pollution and harm marine life. However, Trump and his supporters have long opposed restrictions on plastic products, dismissing paper straws as ineffective and inconvenient.
The policy shift is expected to spark debate between environmental activists and pro-business advocates, as the administration continues to roll back green initiatives enacted under previous leadership.
