CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Officials for the West Virginia Turnpike expect to see 349,000 transactions on the Turnpike’s 88 miles this Memorial Day weekend.
Memorial Day is not one of the largest travel days on the Turnpike, but the four-day holiday travel period does see greater than average traffic.
Friday, May 22, 2026, is expected to be the most heavily traveled day during Memorial Day weekend, with Turnpike transactions expected to be about 146,000. Memorial Day, Monday May 25, 2026, is expected to be next, with about 108,000 transactions.
About 101,000 transactions are expected on Saturday, May 23, 2026, and about 84,000 are expected on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Turnpike officials are beefing up staff at Turnpike toll booths in anticipation of heavier than usual travel.
