RAVENSWOOD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two Jackson County residents face animal cruelty charges after deputies found the remains of two starved dogs in the home which are believed to have been dead for several weeks.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reports that Jackson County Deputies were investigating the home of Michael “JJ” Roush and Janine Whytsell while attempting to arrest Roush on an unrelated pre-existing warrant.
While attempting to determine Roush’s whereabouts, the investigating deputies located two separate dogs that had been chained to two separate dog boxes.
Reports indicate that “both dogs were found to be deceased and in a stage of decomposition leading the investigating deputy to believe they had been dead there for several weeks.”
Both animals were reported to have been discovered in the fetal position “with extreme malnutrition being an obvious cause of death.”
Investigating deputies obtained a statement from Whytsell confirming that the dogs had not been fed for an extended period of time.
Michael “JJ” Roush and Janine Whytsell of Ravenswood were arrested for two counts of Cruelty to Animals.
