WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two men were arrested after a traffic stop in Brier Creek led to the recovery of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cash, according to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies said that on Saturday, October 4, 2025, around 11:50 p.m., Corporal Matthew Perry observed a white SUV driving suspiciously at a slow rate of speed.
When he attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver began trying to evade law enforcement by turning off the lights and driving without illumination.
After the vehicle was stopped, the driver was identified as Daniel Powell.
Deputies said a hypodermic needle was found on the front floorboard, leading to a search that uncovered two Suboxone strips in Powell’s wallet. Powell did not have a valid prescription for the medication.
During a search near the vehicle, deputies also discovered an orange beanie, a large amount of cash, and a bag containing drugs in an area of brush that appeared recently disturbed.
Powell initially denied having passengers but later admitted another man, identified as Landon Kingsley, had fled the vehicle. Deputies said Kingsley was located a short time later with help from a K-9 unit and taken into custody without incident.
Authorities recovered approximately $7,111 in cash, 11 grams of methamphetamine, 6 grams of fentanyl, and three Suboxone strips.
Landon Kingsley was charged with possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, drug conspiracy, and for outstanding warrants from Mercer and McDowell counties.
Daniel Powell was charged with drug conspiracy, fleeing in a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and obstructing.
The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department handled the investigation.
