BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two parents are in jail after allegedly doing drugs in their car with a baby in the back seat.
According to Beckley Police, on September 21, 2021, officers were dispatched to CVS on Harper Road, where two people were doing drugs in their vehicle with a baby in the back seat. Â When police arrived, they found a green Subaru and approached the car to speak to the suspects.
Police say that Mysti Matney and Wayne Matney appeared nervous and stated that they were just there to fill a prescription. Police searched the vehicle and found a small plastic baggie with a brown powdery substance weighing approximately .4 grams. Â Also found with the baggie was a rolled-up dollar bill which is consistent with snorting narcotics. Â When police asked what was in the baggie, Wayne Matney stated that it was heroin, and it was his. Â He was then placed into custody for possession of a controlled substance.
Mysti Matney admitted to police that she was also doing the heroin out of the baggie. She was then placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance.
Due to the child being in the back seat of the vehicle during the time of the crime and the possibility of both parents overdosing and leaving their child unattended, they are facing child neglect charges.
Both suspects are currently in Southern Regional Jail under a 25,000 dollar bond.
