BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two individuals tragically lost their lives in a structure fire that broke out in the early hours of April 10, 2025, on South Oakwood Avenue in Beckley.
The Beckley Fire Department was dispatched to 813 South Oakwood Avenue at approximately 12:57 AM.
Engine One arrived on the scene at 1:02 AM and confirmed heavy fire involvement in the residence.
Neighbors reported the possibility of victims still inside the home, prompting immediate search and rescue operations alongside active fire suppression efforts.
Firefighters located two victims inside the house and swiftly removed them from the building.
Life-saving measures were performed at the scene before both individuals were transported by Jan Care Ambulance to separate medical facilities—Raleigh General Hospital and Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Despite the best efforts of emergency personnel and hospital staff, both victims succumbed to their injuries.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among fire department personnel.
The Beckley Fire Department initially investigated the cause of the fire, but due to the fatal nature of the incident, the investigation was handed over to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office, where it remains ongoing.
“Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this incredibly difficult time,” said Beckley Fire Department Chief Ed Thompson.
“We also extend our gratitude to the firefighters and EMS providers who responded swiftly and with dedication under very challenging conditions.”
No further information is being released as the investigation continues.
