BOONE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two people were killed in an early morning house fire Tuesday in Boone County, according to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire was reported around 1:30 a.m. at a home in the 4000 block of Prenter Road in the Seth community near Racine.
Firefighters from the Racine, Whitesville and Van volunteer fire departments responded to the scene and worked to extinguish the blaze.
Following the fire, investigators with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office were called to examine the scene.
According to investigators, the victims were identified as an 84-year-old woman and a 79-year-old man.
Officials said the home sustained severe damage during the fire, making it impossible to determine the cause of the blaze.
Authorities said the victims’ bodies have been transported to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification and autopsies.
The investigation into the fire remains ongoing.
