CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Charleston and the Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau announced that the 2025 USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships presented by Spilman Thomas & Battle generated an estimated $6.9 million economic impact, a 50% increase over 2024.
Visitor spending was up 14% and represented 13% of all spending in the city during the event. The event supported 1,030 jobs and generated $591,000 in local taxes. Economic impact numbers are calculated by the CVB using the Destinations International Event Economic Impact Calculator.
“The continued success of the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships reflects its lasting value to our community – not just as a world-class competition, but as a significant driver of tourism and economic activity, supporting local jobs and businesses,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “With a 50 percent increase over last year, this event highlights the momentum behind cycling and the power of strong local partnerships.”
A breakdown of attendees shows that 25% were visitors from 50 miles away or more, and 75% were out-of-state visitors. The top five out-of-state origin markets for visitors were Pittsburgh, PA, Washington, DC, Columbus, OH, Raleigh/Durham, NC, and State College/Altoona, PA.
“This event brought the national spotlight to Charleston, and the results speak for themselves,” said Tim Brady, President & CEO of the CVB. “We’re proud of how the city came together to create a world-class experience that delivered real economic benefit. This proves that Charleston is not only capable of hosting national events—we’re thriving in that role. This success creates momentum we’ll carry into future opportunities.”
In 2025, the event expanded to include Para-cyclists. Four-hundred, twenty-two riders from 49 states competed in Time Trials, Criterium and Road Race. Forty-six National Champions were crowned in Charleston, including Kristen Faulkner who successfully defended her 2024 Elite Road Race title.
Based on statistics from the CVB and USA Cycling, total social media engagement was 149K; video views were 1.5M; and total impressions were 3.04M. Ad Value Equivalency (AVE) was $3.07M, and the event was mentioned 388 times in media, creating a potential news reach of 332M.
The 2025 USA Cycling Pro Road Championships were the second of a five-year commitment from USA Cycling to hold the annual national championship event in Charleston. Brady added that preparations are underway for the 2026 USA Pro Road Cycling National Championships.
