BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Beckley City Council met on Tuesday for a session at which a resolution was passed authorizing the City Manager to facilitate documents and transaction in relation to $925,069 in Congressionally Directed Funds.
The amount was awarded as a result of the efforts of Congresswoman Carol Miller through the USDA Rural Services Reconnect Program and will be utilized for the installation of fiber in the uptown Beckley area.
The resolution passed during the session, according to City of Beckley Attorney Bill File, would be necessary in order for the city to facilitate its obligations with regard to the funds.
According to File, the resolution will allow the city, “to execute and deliver the transaction documents required to facilitate its obligations as the grantee of the congressionally Directed Spending award in the amount $925,069.”
The resolution was unanimously approved as presented by members of council.
Tuesday’s session was notable in that it was not only the final meeting of Beckley City Council for the year 2024, but also the first meeting of Beckley City Council following the swearing-in of newly appointed Beckley City Manager, Michael Resare.
“I’m very excited to be the new City Manager,” Resare said during an interview immediately following his swearing-in last week. “It’s a big responsibility; I’ll be the first City Manager so there will be a lot of big expectations that go along with that. I’m definitely equipped to meet that challenge and I’m excited to bring my expertise to the City of Beckley.”
