FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A vehicle was swallowed by a sinkhole that opened in Fayetteville Tuesday evening after heavy rain moved through the area.
A severe thunderstorm swept across Fayetteville Tuesday evening, producing heavy rainfall that led to multiple power outages and areas of high water on roadways throughout the town.
The storm also washed large amounts of gravel, dirt and other debris onto several streets.
The rainfall caused a sinkhole to form in the parking lot of Maggie’s Pub on Keller Avenue, where it engulfed a parked vehicle. No one was inside the vehicle at the time, and no injuries were reported.
LOOTPRESS was on the scene Tuesday night as West Virginia Division of Highways crews responded to assess the situation.
The incident did not impact traffic, and the adjacent roadway remained open.
As of Wednesday morning, the vehicle remained lodged inside the sinkhole.
