TEAYS VALLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – During a Blind Audition on Season 26 of The Voice, indie folk singer Mor Ilderton from Teays Valley made his debut performance, joining Team Bublé.
According to NBC, despite being new to the stage and having never sung for a crowd or into a microphone before, Ilderton left a lasting impression on both the coaches and the audience.
Ilderton’s unique backstory adds to his charm. Raised by his grandmother after losing his mother at the age of 2, he later found a home with his uncle Josh, a Marine Corps veteran, and aunt Stacy when he turned 18.
His aunt explained that Ilderton taught himself guitar during a period of grounding, shaping his musical journey. “He was grounded. He was not allowed to do anything and he just taught himself guitar,” Stacy said.
Ilderton’s performance of Dylan Gossett’s 2023 song “Coal” earned praise from the coaches. Michael Bublé, new to The Voice, was the first to turn his chair, joking that his “toupee” almost fell off in his excitement.
Before hitting the red button, Bublé strategically blocked fellow coach Reba McEntire, the previous season’s winner, who had hoped he wouldn’t remember the Block rule. “I was hoping he’d forgotten that rule. But he didn’t,” McEntire said.
McEntire was visibly disappointed as she admired Ilderton’s voice, describing it as “sexy,” but ultimately forgave Bublé for his tactical move.
Gwen Stefani noted some “tuning” issues but compared Ilderton to popular artist Zach Bryan, while Snoop Dogg, who also turned his chair, praised Ilderton’s “heart” and expressed his hope of adding him to Team Snoop.
Despite the strong pitches, Ilderton chose Team Bublé, marking the beginning of his journey on The Voice.
