CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A new bill introduced in the West Virginia House of Delegates could pave the way for a four-day school week in some counties.
House Bill 2927, sponsored by Delegate Elliott Pritt (R-Fayette) would authorize the West Virginia State Board of Education to implement a two-year pilot program allowing select counties to shift from a traditional five-day school week to a four-day schedule.
Under this plan, students would attend school for four 10-hour days instead of the current five 8-hour days.
The bill requires participating counties to comply with existing state laws regarding school calendars, including holding at least two public meetings to gather input from parents, teachers, businesses, and other community members before any changes take effect.
The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Education for further consideration.
